Takeaway

Agents need agent-native commerce infrastructure (rich SKU data + single-step transactions) and a merchant-paid monetization model to scale beyond consumer subscriptions.

Summary

  • Ionic launches an API/SKU catalog purpose-built for agents — partnering with hundreds of merchants to enrich static ad-feed data with reviews, in-stock status, shipping, and dynamic context.
  • Argues the last 30 years built the web for ads (clicks, browsing), not actions; agents need machine-readable inventory plus inline checkout in one step instead of bouncing site-to-site.
  • Catalog covers millions of SKUs and is accessible via REST API today (docs.ioniccommerce.com); supports relational/vector/graph backends.
  • Monetization thesis: consumer LLM subscriptions won't scale forever — merchants will pay agent builders to source matched customers, similar to how Amazon currently captures that margin.

Original description
Ionic Commerce is on a mission to integrate AI agents into the economy, starting with ecommerce. We have created a connective tissue between commerce and large language models designed specifically for agents which allows agents to navigate the digital world effectively and execute complex transactions without navigating UX/UI designed for humans. We are further enhancing the data layer to support decision-making and bringing the transaction layer into the decision process. Ionic Commerce is laying the foundation for AI agents to seamlessly participate in the economy.
